NNI Research Specialist Kyra James (Navajo Nation/Diné) was one of 45 pre- and early-career scholars selected from a highly competitive pool to participate in the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research workshop “Ethical Collection, Dissemination, and Use of Data Pertaining to American Indian and Alaska Native Populations". The workshop included an overview of ethical issues, and featured presentations by Federal staff who manage critical data concerning American Indian and Alaska Native Head Start programs, substance abuse among Native youth, and tribal jails.

“My role at NNI allows me to build surveys, use data software, and analyze and summarize what trends are occurring in the populations observed. This workshop allowed me to build upon those skills and learn new techniques and methodologies to help with current and future research projects.”
