Project Youth ACT 2017 Applications Now Open
The Native Nations Institute is excited to announce its receipt of a grant from the Native Americans in Philanthropy #GenIndigenous Response Fund to Support Movement Building. The grant supports NNI’s Project Youth ACT (Agents of Change within Tribes) initiative, which trains Indigenous youth in advocacy for social justice and community change. NNI’s three one-day ACT workshops will use current events, case scenarios, and multimedia to teach Native nation building, critical analysis, strategy development, and public speaking.
Youth attending the workshops will gain valuable and immediately useful skills and knowledge. As NNI’s Executive Director, Joan Timeche, explains, “Our goal is to help youth understand how powerful they can be as agents of change within their tribes. It’s a small effort this year, but one that, with the assistance of our partners, we hope to expand and continue to sustain a long-term impact.”
Project Youth ACT is open to 25 Indigenous high school students, ages 14-18, from the Tucson area. The workshops will take place at the University of Arizona on August 12, 19, and 26, 2017. Participants will have the opportunity not only to engage an enriching curriculum but also to experience the University’s campus and some of the amenities it offers. Sessions located at McClelland Park, 650 N PARK AVE Tucson, AZ.
