NNI is assisting the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries and Museums (ATALM) in conducting a 10-year follow-up to its 2011 assessment of member organizations' needs. NNI is analyzing survey findings, writing up results, and conducting seven virtual summits for subgroups of ATALM's organizational members; they work to preserve and advance the language, history, culture, and lifeways of Indigenous peoples. The first summit (March 9^th) focused on Tribal Libraries, and the second summit (March 23^rd) focused on Tribal Archives. Miriam Jorgensen, Research Director and ATALM project lead, presented compelling (preliminary) survey results at both summits, while Executive Director Joan Timeche (Hopi) and Senior Program Coordinator, Tribal Services Davida Delmar (Navajo/Diné) assisted with strategic planning summits, facilitation, and moderating the group reports and priorities. Five additional summits will be held through the summer, with the results to be presented at the national conference in fall 2021. The summits have been very successful and well attended, with over 100 participants from across the U.S. at each, and numerous compliments about the virtual tools employed to give ‘voice’ to attendees.
